Hello Family, Friends and Colleagues,
K.R. and I are going to Africa!!
We are so excited and blessed.
The founder of Africa's Promise Village, Dr. Donna Gunn, has asked us to join her and her group on their trip to Africa in June. We will be volunteering and working with the Intel School and Orphanage in Arusha, Tanzania and Simanjiro Village and discussing ways to improve the lives of impoverished children in Tanzania. K.R. will also bring his guitar and bring a little bit of Texas to Africa through his music and storytelling. We have been told the people, especially the children, love cowboys and cowboy music! K.R. is actually learning some children’s songs in Swahili.
Africa's Promise Village (APV) began as the brainchild of four quasi-retired educators during the summer of 2010. While on a trip to Arusha, Tanzania, Dr. Donna Gunn, APV's founder and President, was so struck by the poverty and deprivation of the many children that she encountered, that she resolved to dedicate her life to solving the problems of heal and education for the people of Tanzania.
A life-long educator and administrator, Dr. Gunn understands that any meaningful and sustained changes for people come through education and resulting economic growth. To that end, APV's core mission is to provide educational resources in the form of schools, teachers and their needed support systems to the people of Tanzania.
APV is currently working on providing clean water wells and building village schools, providing medical supplies, clothing, school supplies and hygiene related items for the children.
We truly hope you can join us in supporting and publicizing this wonderful mission. Please invite your friends and family to participate to raise funds and awareness. Thank you all so very much! We will keep you posted on our trip via Facebook with lots of pictures and videos.
